Nonfiction Text Features Sort Google Slides Digital Sort


This digital Google Slides resource is the digital version of my Nonfiction Text Feature Sort. For a limited time, this resource will be at a discounted price!

Do your students need help learning the vocabulary of nonfiction text features (captions, glossary, index, etc.)? In this resource, a "sorting map" is given to each student, and then they sort pictures of the features as well as an explanation of their purpose.

Great as a quick review or warm-up before a nonfiction study. After students have mastered these features, the cards could be glued down and the chart could be referenced when needed. Fantastic resource for ELL / ESL students!



Color and Light Virtual Field Trip

This virtual field trip guides students through a series of websites explaining the science behind light and color. Students learn about ROY G. BIV and wavelength frequencies of colors in the visible spectrum.

Also a collection of websites is featured, each answering an interesting question about color. Assign students a certain number of questions to answer or allow them to explore freely.

A preview and process question sheet is also included. Tap into students' background knowledge by asking them the preview question before sending them on their field trip. Then, at the end of the lesson, have them answer the process question to assess their understanding.

Great way to motivate students to read more about this interesting science topic!

Reference Materials Google Slides Review Game



This is a quick game to get students talking about reference materials including:
-almanacs
-atlases
-encyclopedias
-thesauruses
-dictionaries

A question is posed and students have to state what reference material they would use to find the answer. Great to use while each student has a whiteboard to write their response and show you. Fantastic no-prep test-prep resource!


Earthquake Virtual Field Trip

 




Want to experience an earthquake from the comfort of your computer lab? Then take your class on a virtual field trip! Students visit four websites focused on earthquakes. They watch a video, read important earthquake facts, chart the most recent earthquake activity in the US, and take an earthquake safety quiz.

As students "travel," they record important information on their graphic organizer. If you have access, you could upload into a student server so that they can easily click on the links. Now, QR codes for each website are included, as well as a bitly version with shorter links incase your class needs to type in each website address.

Visit a Volcano Virtual Field Trip Webquest


Want to take a class trip to a volcano but can't quite afford flights to Hawaii? Then take your class on a virtual field trip! Students visit three websites focused on volcanoes. They watch a video, read about continually active volcanoes and read an interview with a volcanologist.

As students "travel," they record interesting and important facts on their graphic organizer. They can type their answers if you can upload this file to a student shared folder, or you can copy the pages and have students complete.

Protist Web Adventure

 


Trying to get your class excited about Amoebas, Paramecium, and Euglenas? I know, it’s next to impossible, but this resource is here to help!

This activity introduces your class to the protist kingdom, then sends them on a reading and internet adventure to learn more about three specific protists: amoebas, paramecium, and euglenas. Along with text, there are websites students can visit to learn more.

A graphic organizer is included to aid students’ comprehension and for them to compare and contrast the microorganisms.

Several ideas for implementation are included.

Events Leading to the Revolutionary War Reader's Theater Pack

 



This script pack contains 7 reader's theater scripts and can be used to teach or review events leading to the Revolution.

The scripts are short and written for about 2-3 students.

Topics include:

-French and Indian War

-Proclamation of 1763

-Stamp Act

-Boston Massacre

-Boston Tea Party

-Meeting of the 1st Continental Congress

-Intolerable Acts.

Student volunteers can present a script to the class and then a discussion can follow.

Another idea would be to give pairs of students scripts to practice, then they could act out in front of the class,in order, creating a dramatic timeline.

Great for discussing cause and effect, practicing fluency, visualizing and really bringing history to life in your classroom.
